Hmmm goes away when u engage 4wd sounds like it could be a universal joint gone bad...maybe all your bearings fell out. Its either that or my front axle isnt disengaging all the way...I pretty sure it uses vaccum to engage and disengage....Ill check that tomarrow. Update: Dealer is awaiting a part from Ford which is currently looking to come in 2/8, but that date could change. I am hopeful but skeptical the IWE replacement will solve this as the dealer went above and beyond and even attempted to swap another IWE off another brand new 23 F-150 on their lot and now they both make the noise. I was driving down the highway yesterday when it was pouring down rain and I heard a grinding/ humming noise coming from the rear.
