Edit: Decided to test it again because I started to wonder if it didn't work because I didn't break the window first. With a broken window and only one barricade I was able to shoot through it, but not when I added an extra plank. It's odd and misleading, because with 2 planks you can still see through the barricade, but not shoot through it.

My logic being that if zombies are attracted to player creations, then I should obscure the view of the barricade from the outside with a sheet. I haven't really tested it, but I can't remember the last time I had to replace a window barricade since I started doing this.
